Mummy Tiwa: The Transition

In my Culture, calling a person by his/her first name can be very dicey. People here find it tad disrespectful especially where the person to be called is older in age or even status. It is our perception that calling a person by a first name shows some kind of over-familiarity. To play it safe therefore, people who try to show some respect would rather just say,   Brother, Sister, Aunty, Uncle, Mummy, Daddy or add it as a prefix to your name e.g. Aunty Wunmi which some still find offensive depending on your age! See how dicey it can be! Especially when you are not sure you are older or younger than the person you want to address!

Anyways, let’s talk about me! For Thirty-two years of my life, I have been addressed as Sister Seun or Aunty Wunmi by even four- year olds and I actually never considered it an issue. But my new name is really bursting my head! It Sounds like Wow, It sounds so amazing, so exciting, so elating, so surreal, so gooood!  I still can’t get over the transition!*Grinning!

It all changed in one day! The 18th day of May 2015, when I birth the most beautiful baby girl on planet earth*smiles! And on the 25th of May, she was christened ‘TIWAtope Michelle Adeniyi’! Thereafter, my named changed! All who felt I didn’t qualify to be called Aunty or Sister { I look  younger than my age} now feel free to qualify me with my daughter’s name, those who knew my age and felt it was just wrong to address me on a first name basis but initially had no choice have also made a switch!

It’s been five full months of Motherhood and I am grateful for this new season of my life. I have had to make many unsavoury or unpopular decisions in favour of my daughter, for instance, the decision to quit my job didn’t go down well with many but hey, the truth is : I’m definitely a proud mama who feels extremely privileged to be a full time mom with a super duper supportive husband and, of course, I am soo enjoying the privilege or right to be called: Mummy Tiwa! Heheehe!

2014…..Operation Pareto!

In my Church, the year 2013 was tagged the year of Pleasing God! And as the year comes to an end, I can’t but count my many blessings! God has indeed been faithful to me and I give myself a little pat on the back for endeavoring to please Him. Was I perfect? No! But, I’m sure closer to perfection than the preceding year.

In my family, God blessed us with Unions, Births, graduations, Jobs, Provision, protection and much more and I truly can’t thank the Most High God enough! Kabiyesi, Oluorun, I write to give you Twale!!!
Amidst all my many blessings, God gave me a lovely man... And now! ‘FINALLY’! (as everyone would add), I’m poised to getting married in a few months! God has indeed vindicated me by His Mercy and I’m forever grateful!

2013 has indeed been a good year and I’m positive 2014 would be better. I do not have resolutions perse but I really do want to apply the Pareto principle in 2014. I think I have done many things in 2013 and all I have done haphazardly! Thus, in 2014, I hope to focus my time, energy and resources on the major things that give me the most satisfaction/fulfillment. What I mean is that I hope to focus on my priorities in 2014.

In case you don’t know, the Pareto principle is also known as the 80/20 rule and is the idea that 20 percent of causes generate 80 percent of results. In applying this principle to my life therefore, I believe that if I can identify and focus on 20% of my core interest, I’ll achieve 80% (more) of the satisfaction that doing a little of everything would have generated.

Need I tell you my core interest, Nah! I just hope to focus on them….Since blogging isn’t one of them, I’m not sure I would blog at all in 2014…..So just in case anyone on the world wide web is/has been following my blog, my sincere apologies. I just hope I meet you sometime…

To 2013, I say thank you for being a good year, to 2014…I’ll say welcome, be better and be a great commencement to great and mighty things in my life….. I see a new beginning, a beautiful one at that!

Farewell 2013, Welcome 2014!

Blessings!

Is God Just?

I remember telling some Christian folks that I didn’t think God was Just. And of course, the reaction was in the negative…like common, ‘How can you say that’! ‘God is not a man that you should talk about like that’! ‘Stop analyzing God like a legal problem’! bla! bla! Was all the response I got. And of course, I became more convinced that God wasn’t fair…
Every day and Everywhere, I see injustice… I see the diligent toiling and the lazy merrrying, I see good people die and bad people live. I see innocent folks go to jail and the not so innocent roam the streets freely…  I see unassuming children suffer for what they know nothing about…birth defects, diseases, accident and death is the lot of many lovers of God. And I wonder where God is!
Even in the Bible, I see stories of injustice! What on earth did Job do to warrant  the insurmountable loss that befell him or why on earth should the laboures that came at the ninety-ninth point ninth minute earn the same wages as those that had toiled all day in Matthew 20?
And yet, the same God says: “He’ll have mercy on whom He’ll have mercy on(Exodus 33:19) meaning… “It’s up to me who I choose to be fair/merciful to” init? Oh Please! Don’t crucify me…I’m just thinking out loud. And lucky you if you’ve never had cause to think of God as not soo nice…Well, I’ve been so mad at God before…to an extent that I said to myself or rather to God, that I was just going to live my life as I would without a care about His feelings…..(Now, i know better...)
As I pondered and wondered about the justness of God, I found answers in no one….some were too ‘petrified’ of God to consider the topic talk less of analyzing it and perhaps, some felt I might first need to be delivered from demonic thoughts and then go through counseling before they would open the scriptures to me…
Unlike legal issues, which become clearer the more you research, theological issues just make me ask more questions. I had read scriptures like Hebrews 6: 10 in the New International Version of the Bible which is very explicit, yet I wasn’t satisfied.  Of Course, I also read Romans 9 and still, I wanted more… Since I was not getting answers from anyone or even the internet, I asked the Lord to give me answers himself. And yeah! I prayed. Indeed, I prayed.
Then one day, one ordinary day, a scripture came to my mind, a scripture I had read and prayed with many times over…..I felt like God brought his mouth close to my ear and said to me: My Mercy prevails over justice….Chai! I heard it so clearly…I knew I had even read that scripture recently and so I picked my bible and turned to James! Yes! James Chapter Two and Verse 13. The latter part read: Mercy prevails over judgment. And just as I tried to juxtapose what I heard with what I read, I became all the more convinced that there was no need to probe further…
Now, I know that it’s better that God deals with us Mercifully than Justly. It is indeed better for His Mercy to prevail over judgment. If not for his mercy, where would I be, where would you be? If God where to give us Justice according to the Law or like the Law, all the time, then we would all be damned!
Oh Lord, please forgive my Legal mind and be merciful to me! Please be merciful to the reader of this piece too! Amen.
